Linda’s Legacy

Trust Account Administrator / Legal Secretary Linda Taylor has had a long and lustrous legal career. Known for her patient, calm demeanour, clients love to deal with her. As she steps back to semi-retirement later this year, we look into the legacy she’s built and the kindness she’s shared.

Growing up in Te Awamutu, Brent Kelly Law Trust Account Administrator / Legal Secretary Linda Taylor is a true local, spending most of her life here.

“My parents and grandparents are all from Te Awamutu, so I guess you could call me a ‘true’ local,” she laughs.

Leaving school at age 15, Linda started work in a local accounting firm before joining law firm Edmonds Dodd, where her sister also worked as a typist.

“It was different back then with the amount of typing and dictation we had to do. Nowadays, most lawyers do their own typing with the odd exception!”

Linda then took on her first Legal Secretary role at a law firm in Hamilton, before moving to Whangarei and back, getting married and having two children.

She continued to work in Legal Secretary roles along the way, all over the Waikato including in Hamilton, Otorohanga and Te Awamutu.

“I was working in Otorohanga part time when Alex McIvor (Brent Kelly Law Director) rang and offered me the job of Trust Account Administrator / Legal Secretary,” she says.

That was in 2018, and Linda says she has really enjoyed working at Brent Kelly Law.

“I love the computer work and the casual atmosphere of the office,” she says.

“Most of the time I’m reconciling the trust account and keeping an eye on what comes in and out, while helping to prepare documentation for clients who are buying and selling properties.”

Alex says Linda has been a calm and patient presence around the office since she started.

“Linda is always friendly and pleasant to everyone,” says Alex.

“Her calm approach to her work rubs off on others, so we all enjoy having her in the office.”

Planning to semi-retire in October, Linda is looking forward to spending more time with her family and making more time for her interests.

“My daughter lives just around the corner in Pirongia with her three children including twins, which is pretty full on,” she says.

“I haven’t been able to see my son for about 18 months because of Covid, as he’s in Australia, so I am hoping things will improve soon on that front.”

“I’m looking forward to stepping back a bit and having a bit more time to do more of what I love, including some DIY, sewing, reading, pottering around home and meeting up with friends for the odd glass of wine,” she says.

“Plus I’ve got plans to get a dog to go with my cat, three chickens and a rooster, so that should keep me busy!”
